Elwyn and Gareth Griffiths are very
conscious of our young growing people; they are our next
doctor's politicians, council employees, engineers, nurses,
soldiers and farmers... to name but a few. Whatever they decide
to be, it is our generation that are responsible for their
longevity and education.
The Griffiths' brothers have numerous
concerns. One of these is providing our younger people with
safe, affordable, nutritious food but also to try to add
a little to their knowledge of such an important food source as
eggs. They recently made available the farm's chef to all local
primary schools within a dozen mile radius of the farm. He went
into the schools and demonstrated the use of eggs in many
different recipes. Elwyn popped in during his busy day to see
how things were cooking up; checking that the food tasted good
and answering many farming questions from the young students.
The demonstrations were very popular and
word got about and chef was kept very busy cooking up lots of
treats. We understand he demonstrated to many 'egger' would be
chefs, home made custard(no powder in sight) Mum's favourite
eggy pieces, spicy vegetable fritters and many delicious crepe
dishes, and omelettes. On one occasion Mums that had been
excitably informed about the egg days from their children asked
Oaklands to send chef to a fund raising activity in the evening
for their school. Oaklands farm funded this and money raised
went back into the school. Here they took part in making
Hollandaise sauce and many egg related dishes.
Further education for the staff is
constantly available at the farm for in a number of update
courses, complementing the huge wealth and abundance of
knowledge already held an accumulated by the workforce.
